Yashasvi Jaiswal was India’s lone bright star in an embarrassing display during the Guwahati Test as the batting unit suffered a major collapse, which has left the team on the brink of a second whitewash on home soil in as many years since Gautam Gambhir took charge as head coach.
Needing a monumental batting effort after South Africa posted a huge total of 489 on the board in the first innings, having won the series opener in Kolkata. Jaiswal gave India a solid start with a knock of 58 runs in 97 balls while putting a 65-run partnership with KL Rahul, who made 22 runs.
Yashasv Jaiswal Emulates Sachin Tendulkar
Before Jaiswal was dismissed by Simon Harmer, the 23-year-old created history by scoring the 20th 50+ score of his career, which included seven centuries. The star batter is playing the 28th Test match of his career and has 2498 runs at an average of 49.9.
Jaiswal has become only the second Indian player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to have scored above 50 before turning 24 and the first to do so in the 21st century. In Test cricket’s 148-year-old history, only six players have achieved the rare feat with Alaister Cook and Kane Williamson being the only ones to do it since the change of the millennium.

Jaiswal’s tally of seven centuries is also the joint-fourth in history at the age of 23, with only Don Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, and Gary Sobers ahead of him in the elite list.
The Indian opener has converted five of his seven Test centuries to 150+ scores, which is only bettered by Bradman at this age.
The second innings of this game will be the last time Jaiswal bats in Test cricket before his 24th birthday next month.
